The Ladies who Lunch; and us.

What a trip. I just returned from my Company's Holiday Lunch, held at the Doubles Club. For those who don't know what that is ( I didn't), it's the private club within the venerable Sherry Netherland Hotel. Our Lunch was terrific, though the real entertainment was the people watching. This place was filled with every 5th Ave Dowager within a mile. Wow, what it must be like to lunch in opulence day in and day out, pretending not to notice your many friends plastic surgery or that the story they just had to tell you, you've heard from them at least three times.
When we arrived, they glared at us like barbarians looking to rape and pillage. What's funny about that is, if you ever want to see a society lady get ghetto, try and take the last bon bon at the desert table. She'll fuck you up. So what's interesting to me remains that this set of people, who are mostly in God's waiting room, have decided to spend their days in complete isolation. They are isolated from the masses, creating a diminishing return to society. Its almost sad.

The Ride's Getting Less Bumpy

This week started off as a real disaster. I felt like I was in crisis in every aspect of my life. That's not a quality feeling, nor one that helps your growth as a person. Today was a great example of how when I apply my best efforts in all my endeavors, the spectre of doom is lifted and I can start to actually see solutions.

Fall into Spring

I had a really amazing day today. It was one of those Sundays where nothing seemed rushed, yet I got a lot accomplished and was able to enjoy myself all at the same time. The first of two highlight events for the day was bringing the dogs to Petropolis, where they had their picture taken with Santa. This might sound insane to those people who don’t have dogs, but when your dogs are your kids, it makes perfect sense. The second highlight was walking through Battery Park and photographing the changing leaves and catching an exquisite sunset. All of this was made only better by a 65 degree sunny day in November!

The Secret

So I battle with this concept of the Law of Attraction. It tells you to Believe and most importantly "Act as if", so that you put out the signals to the Universe to attract what it is you want. I can see how Smiles beget smiles and courtesy begets courtesy etc, but it also begs you to behave this way with money, material desires and stature. In these areas it almost seems a little dangerous. Behaving like you have a lot of money when you don't just because you expect it, can get one into a lot of trouble. On the other hand, if you never try, you'll never know.

Fall Back

Well, today was the first work day post having to turn our clocks back. It's no surprise to me that of all the watches and clocks etc that I reset, the one I missed was my alarm clock. Isn't that just my crummy luck. Way to start off the week Mark!

Halloween 2009 

Never made my way to the Village Parade this year, but caught most of it on tv. The Weather was kind of crummy and I was on day two of celebrating the venerable All Hallows Eve, so a nice dinner and catching the end of the Yanks game was more then enough for me. 

Let the sun shine down

Been tossing and turning and not knowing what to do with myself today. I guess I'm just used to being trapped indoors from all of the sideways rain we've been having. Today, looks like its going to be a lot different, so I'm gonna have to break out the bike and go for a ride. One cool thing I'm doing today is going to the blessing of the animals, held yearly at Saint Luke's Church. I think at least one of my dog needs to be exorcised.

Summer's End

A September sunset

Hitting the Road

Running late to get on the road for the big Labor Day Weekend. Part of me is really looking forward to getting out of the city and "relaxing", yet I always think of the price we all pay to pursue that relaxation. The anxiety of getting the car and sitting in traffic, angry motorist and of course the obnoxious teenage drivers who think they are Mario Andretti. These type of trips always seem well worth it once we get to our destination and realize how much we appreciate our family, friends and surroundings. Unfortunately, these trips have to be bookended with the return home which in many cases mirror our flight from the city. So it is with these thoughts and the knowledge that I'm not returning on Monday like most everyone else, that I Hit the road for my Labor Day weekend. Wish me luck

Committments!!!

Something I find very unsettling is the willingness of many people to not live up to their commitments. What the hell is that all about? There are assets like time and money that when withheld from those it was committed, create a domino effect and therefore the potential for an unwilling outcome of that person being forced to not meet his own commitments. Yes, you know who you are. Ahhhh

Promenade.
